Anna “Ona” Mileika, 92, of Randolph, died March 2, 2013 at the Copley in Stoughton with her sons by her side.  Born in Ukmerge, Lithuania, she was the youngest of five children to the late Adomas and Emilija Tamosiunas.  At the age of 28, under the Soviet Occupation of Lithuania, her family’s farm was seized and she along with her parents were forcibly exiled to Igarka, Siberia during Stalin’s largest deportation operation in May of 1948. For 12 long years she remained there under brutal conditions of blistering cold, starvation, darkness and hard labor in a makeshift lumber camp.  Incredibly in 1960, she was reunited with her brothers in the United States with the help of their petitions and the assistance of the State Department, Congress and the MA Division of Immigration. A biography of her exile in Siberia “Igarkos Naujamiestis” was written by Elena Juciute and published in 1983. Ona married Stasys Mileika and lived in Cambridge until they moved to Randolph where they raised their family, always thankful of her great fortune and opportunity of finding this new life in the United States.  She became a U.S. citizen in 1972. The harsh experience shaped her life and soul in unimaginable yet positive ways.  She made it her life’s mission to care for people and provide food to those in need, especially since she experienced famine herself.  She believed food was a gift from God. Her passion for food and her talent as a cook brought her to work at the Sandara Club in the Lithuanian Village Brockton in the 1980’s and South Boston Lithuanian Citizens Club in the 1990’s. She had many hobbies and interests including: Beekeeping, gardening, Lithuanian folk music and dancing, playing accordion and singing in the St Casimir church choir.
