Richard F. Cosgrove Obituary

Richard Francis Cosgrove was born on August 24,1943 in Brockton MA to Ralph and Margaret (Clifford) Cosgrove, the eldest of 4 children. After graduating from Brockton High School in 1962, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  He was on active duty from 1962 to 1964, honorably discharged to the Reserves until 1967. He served on board both the USS Fred T. Berry, Boston MA & the USS Bristol, Newport RI.  He talked about his time overseas with great fondness where he traveled through the Nile River and the Mediterranean Sea. Richard married the love of his life, Linda Jean Masaitis on July 19, 1968. They were the proud parents of their only child, Tammy. Richard obtained an associate’s degree in Business and was employed at City Glass Company for 25 years where he worked as a glazier.

Richard was a Boston Sports enthusiast with baseball being his favorite sport.  You would often find him in the middle of watching either a Red Sox, Patriots or Celtics game.  He loved to play golf in his younger years.  He was up to date with sports trivia, always knowing many sport facts like who played what position for what team.  Richard and Linda loved to travel especially to Acapulco, Mexico where they owned a timeshare for 20 years.  Richard loved to cook and was quite a chef.  Self-taught, he loved to make dishes like veal saltimbocca, clams casino, shrimp scampi and prime rib dinners.  He loved animals, going to the beach, fine dining and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.  Richard enjoyed watching documentaries on history, nature and geography.  He loved to study maps and atlases of the world; he had a deep interest in the weather and geography.

He and Linda moved to Falmouth MA in 1997 and enjoyed their time there.  In 2017 they relocated to Bonita Springs FL.  Richard passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda, their daughter Tammy Cosgrove Rosbach and her husband Mark of Falmouth MA, two granddaughters, Mary Thompson (Landon) of Salt Lake City, UT Elizabeth Rosbach of Provo, UT, his sister Susan Cosgrove of Falmouth, brother Glen Cosgrove of Brockton and sister-in-law Nancy Sergio, and by many nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Cosgrove and his two eldest grandchildren Richard & Linsey Rosbach.
