Shirley L. (Kingman) Dunford

July 30, 1930 ~ November 6, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Shirley L. Dunford, 87, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died Nov. 6, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She was a daughter of the late Lyndell (Sylvester) and Parker Kingman Jr. and the wife of the late James E. Dunford, BFD. After raising her family, she was employed by the City of Brockton in the Auditor’s Office and was an active member of Christ Congregational Church for 73 years. An experienced seamstress, she fashioned dresses for under privileged girls through a church affiliation; she spent many hours making clothes for her daughters and smaller versions for their Barbie dolls. She was known for her wry wit and perceptive nature and relied on her Yankee ingenuity to raise her family and maintain her home. She traveled extensively with family and friends. She is survived by: son Ned Dunford (and Marion) of NC, daughters Jane Fitzsimmons (and Michael) of Brockton and Peggy Dunford (and Robert Drobneck) of Melrose; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Jack Moncrief;  sister-in-law Bernadette (Mrs. George) Moncrief; brother-in-law Joseph F. Dunford (and his wife Katherine); and was predeceased by brothers George and Malcolm Moncrief. All are welcome to calling hours Wednesday 3-7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, her funeral Thursday at 9 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home, funeral service at 10 a.m. at Christ Congregational Church, UCC, 1350 Pleasant St. Brockton, burial at Melrose Cemetery and then to a luncheon in her honor at Christ Congregational Church.
