Richard (Dickie) Douglas Carney, 73, of Holbrook, passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 21, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital. Richard was born November 2, 1943 in Revere.  He was the son of the late Francis Carney and Lillian (Lambert) Carney-Rideout and loving grandson of Margaret (Clark) Lambert-Culberson. He served in the United States Marine Corp. as a Lance Cpl. where at 18 he was off-shore in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.   He retired from the Brockton School Department where he worked for close to 40 years; he was also the longtime president of Brockton Custodial Association.  After retirement he worked part-time at Stoughton Public Schools as a hall monitor and was adored by many students and faculty.  He was the devoted husband of Paula (Larsen) Carney for 36 years; beloved father of Wayne, Sean and Michael Carney; father-in-Law of Laurie and Jill; loving grandfather of Victoria, James, Zachary, Jason, Abigail and Isabella Carney; one of six brothers, Wayne and his wife Kathy Rideout, Mark and his wife Audrey Rideout, late Charles Carney who is survived by his wife Roseanne Carney, late Walter Carney and late Emerson Rideout; he leaves many loving nieces and nephews and countless friends especially Al and Kathy Silva.  Richard will be remembered as a kind, friendly, and loving man who always went out of his way to help others. Family, friends and fishing were what he lived for. He loved attending his grandchildren's sports events and enjoyed the movies. He had the gift of gab and loved phone calls. His family meant everything to him and the memories will live on forever. All are welcome to calling hours Sunday 3-7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton.
