Maxine A. Bernard, 75, of Brookline, passed away on November 25, 2016. Born in Bastrop, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Rose Lee Bernard. A graduate of Girls Trade High School in Boston, she had worked for Suburban Home Health Care for several years. Maxine was a longtime member of Grant A.M.E. Church in Boston for many years and belonged to the Southerners Ministry there. She dedicated her life to helping others and was a member of the Elsie T. Joseph Missionary Society. Maxine was the mother of Kevin Bernard of Hyde Park; grandmother of Jamal Bernard, Kevin Bernard Jr. and Latoya Wiggins; great-grandmother of Christian and Bella; Godmother of Alfred L. Johnson Jr. of Brockton and his partner Schiller Augustin; sister of Tarma Johnson of Brockton and Sabina Johnson-McClelland of Statesville, North Carolina; and a close friend of Georgia Young, Jannie Robinson, Edna Smallwood, Vivian Marshall, Roberta Bower (aka Ms. Bobby), Debbie Williams, Rev. Melissa Langham and many others. All are welcome to gather Saturday at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Celebration of Life service at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton and burial at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
