Mary A. (Murphy) Bechtold, 83, of Brockton, passed away on Sat. Jan. 14, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Born is St. Elizabeth Hospital, Brighton on Feb. 4, 1933, she is the daughter of the late Peter E. and Helen (Heavey) Murphy from Galway and Enniskillen, Ireland who emigrated to Boston in the 1920’s; loving sister of the late Peter F. Murphy (Jeanne) of FL, the late James Murphy (Boston) and Phillip L. Murphy of CA; dear mother of Mary H. Bechtold (Glenn Young) of ME and AZ and William P. Bechtold (Cathleen Cobis) of FL; devoted grandmother of 7: Billy and Kari Finnegan, Josh and Julie Young, Daniel Bechtold, and Brianne and Caitlin Young; great-grandmother of 2; beloved wife of the late William M. Bechtold; she leaves many cousins in U.S. and Ireland and nieces and nephews. She had a wonderful group of friends who gathered at her home monthly to party and she was the matriarch of a wonderful Cary Hill neighborhood. Mary was proud of her 100% Irish heritage and is missed by many. All are welcome to calling hours Sunday 1-5 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, her funeral Monday at 8 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home, funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church, Brookline and burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
