Joseph L. Butler

Joseph L. Butler, 80, formerly of Brockton, passed away peacefully Dec. 4, 2016. Raised in Newton and Bridgewater, he graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Navy during and after the Korean era. Joe was a bus dispatcher and member of M.B.T.A. Starters and Inspectors Local 600 until retirement. He resided in Brockton from 1957 to about 1996 and then lived between Sarasota, Florida and Poland Spring Campground in Maine where he continued to camp for nearly 30 years and worked for 17 years. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing. Joe was the beloved husband of Joanne (Stonkus) Butler for 59 years; loving father of Theresa Fowler (and Joseph) of Brockton and the late Joseph Butler Jr.; dear grandfather of Kelly Scansaroli (and Joseph) of Brockton; great-grandfather of Vincent Scansaroli; brother of Louis Butler of Marlboro, Thomas Butler (and Jean) of Hanson and Darlene Sparks of Florida; and an uncle of many nieces and nephews including his godchild Karin Butler. All are welcome to calling hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, his funeral from Waitt Funeral Home Friday at 8 a.m., funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Christ the King Parish and burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to your favorite charity.
