Irene Pires Alves, 86, of Brockton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on July 26, 2017. Born in Fogo, Cabo Verde, she was the daughter of the late Marcia Alves. Irene was the beloved mother of Maria Martins, John Alves, Candido Alves, Henrique Alves, Francisco Alves, Filmina Alves, Ildo so Alves, and Odette Alves; loving sister,  grandmother and great-grandmother of many. All are welcome to calling hours Tuesday, August 1st from 5-9 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, funeral from Waitt Funeral Home Wednesday, August 2nd at 9 a.m., funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Church. Burial to follow at Melrose Cemetery.
