Harry Bates, 70, of Brockton, passed away on September 5, 2017. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Harold G. Bates and Ellen (Merriam) Duffy. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam Era. Harry was the beloved husband of Joyce (Egersheim) Bates; loving father of Heather Munoz of Gardner, Holly Ferguson (and Rod) of Hanover, Gregory Bates of Hanover, Jeffrey Bates of Hull, Jamie Bates (and Jennifer) of Raynham, Harold G. Bates III of MD, and Ryan Bates (and Sara) of Raynham; grandfather of 12; great-grandfather of 7; brother of Ellen Fallon, David Bates, Bruce Bates, Patty Duffy, Barbara Walsh and the late Anne Marie Stewart and Allen Bates; stepson of Ruby Bates; and an uncle of many nieces and nephews. He loved his beloved family pet Tedy and enjoyed spending time with his family and cooking on the grill. An avid Patriots Fan, he was a great golfer in his day. Harry loved his association with the Knights of Columbus. Private funeral arrangements entrusted to Waitt Funeral Home.
