Harold J. McDonald, 85, of Avon for the past 50 years, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2017. Raised in Randolph, he was a principal at Ashfield Elementary School for 24 years until his retirement. After retirement, he worked in human resources for the Brockton Public Schools. Harold was passionate about working with children for their betterment, and was admired and loved by everyone he met. He was a member of the Randolph Elks, and enjoyed running, golfing, and basketball with his sons. Harold was the beloved husband of Kathleen “Bunny” (Coneys) McDonald for 60 years; devoted father of Joseph McDonald (and Jean) of Bridgewater, Kathleen McDonald (and Scott Hulien) of Avon, Walter McDonald of Raynham, Anne Marie Drinkwater of E. Wareham, Mary Beth Nauss (and Ed) of Avon, Harold McDonald Jr. (and Lisa) of E. Bridgewater, Patricia Nelson (and Mike) of Westwood, and John McDonald (and Allison) of Randolph; loving grandfather of Ryan, Joseph, Megan, Marc, Jon, Sarah, Robert, Christopher, Sean, Alicia, Vanessa, Christine, Matthew, Brendan and Elizabeth; great-grandfather of Addie; and a brother of Claire Cox of Sandwich, and the late John McDonald and Mary O’Donnell. All are welcome to calling hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, funeral from Waitt Funeral Home Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Avon and burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Michael Church, 87 N. Main St, Avon, MA 02322.
