 Edgar G. Whitaker, 84, of Brockton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 11, 2017. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a sheet metal worker and member of Local Union 123 Boston. Edgar was an active member of the Brockton Council on Aging. A kind and gentle man, he enjoyed fishing, home projects, Boston sports, running road races, ocean cruises and traveling with family. Edgar was the devoted husband of Betty (Pritchard) Whitaker for 58 years; beloved father of Betty Ho Sang and her husband David of Bedford, NH, Susan Whitaker-Dailey of South Berwick, ME, John Whitaker and his wife Sheila of Bridgewater, and the late Jean Whitaker; loving grandfather of Mark and Kathleen Ho Sang, Brendan Whitaker, Jenna Dailey, Alison and Matthew Whitaker, and the late John Ho Sang; brother of Ernest Whitaker of Quincy, Dorothy Ferolito of Cambridge, and the late Charles “Walkie” Whitaker, Elizabeth “Lee” Neal and Lawrence “Mike” Whitaker; and an uncle of many. Following cremation, all are welcome to calling hours Friday 4-7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, funeral from Waitt Funeral Home Saturday at 8 a.m., funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Church and burial at Melrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Joseph Manor (Pastoral Care and Activities Programs), 215 Thatcher St., Brockton, MA 02302.
