Donald W. Finlayson

Donald W. Finlayson, 75, of Citrus Hills, Florida since 2002, formerly of Brockton, passed away peacefully Nov. 27, 2016. A son of the late Donald A. and Nora (Killeen) Finlayson, he was a native of Roxbury, and later Dorchester. He served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard out of Quincy, 109th Signal Corps. Don was a member of IBEW Local 717 and employed by the MBTA as an electrical worker, retiring as an electrical foreman and Alliance member after many years with the “T”. While residing in Brockton, he was twice elected to the Plymouth County Republican Committee. Don was a devout Catholic and active member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. In Florida he was a communicant of St. Scholastica Roman Catholic Church, member of K of C Council #6168 serving as a Warden, Chancellor and A.F. S. Board member and a member and officer of 4th Degree K of C Francis Cardinal Spellman, Assembly #1547, all in Lecanto. He was a board member of the Irish/American Social Club and volunteered for Our Lady of Grace Church Food Pantry and Christian Kitchen, all in Beverly Hills, Florida. Among his favorite charities were Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Research Center in Boston and Sheriffs Youth Ranch in Homosassa, Florida. Don was the beloved husband of Jean (Richardson) Finlayson for 56 years; loving father of Linda Plache (and Donald) of Brockton and Donald Finlayson Jr. (and Susan) of Middleboro; devoted grandfather of Specialist James Britton Jr. U.S. Army (and Julie), Andrea Britton, Donald Finlayson III and Thomas Finlayson; dear brother of Richard Finlayson (and Del) of Lecanto, Florida and the late Frances Devlin and Constance Kilmartin; and an uncle of several nieces and nephews. All are welcome to calling hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, his funeral Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home, funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Church and burial at Pine Hill Cemetery, both in West Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, Inc. P. O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, FL 32064 (or donate goods to their new Thrift Store in Homosassa) or St. Scholastica Church, 4301 W. Homosassa Trail, Lecanto FL 34461.
