Christine N. “Tina” (Baker) Solomon, 100, a lifelong resident of Brockton, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2016. She was the daughter of the late General and Nannie Baker, who had 12 children in Brockton. “Tina” attended Brockton Public Schools, graduating from Brockton High School. An active member of the Lighthouse of Faith in Christ Jesus Church, she formerly attended Lincoln Congregational Church and United Church of Christ, where her father was a founding Deacon. She was retired from Raytheon. Many would say that Christine was always on the go, doing great volunteer work in the City of Brockton. She was known for her love of volunteering and doing good work until the very end. She volunteered for all causes and gave of herself selflessly, all to help and be a proud resident in the City of Champions. She always spoke of how proud she was of her family and her city, saying she just wanted to be a part of making it a better place to live. “Tina” spent her lifetime helping others, volunteering in the soup kitchen at Mount Moriah Baptist Church for 18 years, and helping at other city events. She always stated that her faith played a vital role in her love of helping people and it was a very important part of her life. For all of her good deeds, Christine was honored in March 2009 as one of the City of Champion’s Woman of Courage, receiving the award at 94 years old from the Brockton Commission on Women’s issues. She received the award for her active volunteering in the church and throughout the community. She was an avid fan of bowling, and was known for her famous “Charleston Dance” steps. Christine is survived by her 3 brothers, Harrison Baker of Falmouth, Raymond W. Baker Sr. of Bridgewater and Melbourne Baker Sr. of Brockton; 3 God children, Raymond Baker Jr., Deborah Adams and Gaylord Penn Jr. She will join her husband Charles Solomon, her siblings Joseph Baker, Edna Tubbs, Lloyd Baker, Geraldine Holland, Bernice Marrow, Marcia Tubbs, Mary E. Baker and Roger Baker. Christine leaves a host of nieces and nephews, as well as friends. All are welcome to her calling hours Saturday 8-10 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. service in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, and burial at Melrose Cemetery.
