Alicia Marguerite (Armstrong) Free

September 7, 1963 ~ January 24, 2016 (age 52) 52 Years Old

Alicia Marguerite (Armstrong) Free, 52, of Jersey City, NJ, and formerly of West Bridgewater, MA, North Weymouth, MA, and Coshocton, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 3:19 P.M., following a brief hospitalization at the Jersey City Medical Center. Born September 7, 1963 in Amarillo, TX, Alicia is the daughter of Rev. Kenneth H. Armstrong and Genice Marguerite (Eben) Armstrong. Alicia trusted Jesus as her Savior when she was 5 years old and from that point on, throughout her life, her passion was to glorify God and please Him in everything she did.  Alicia moved to Massachusetts with her parents when she was 7 years old, and was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, which her father founded. There she served the Lord faithfully for 33 years in many different capacities, including Sunday School teacher, church pianist, Children’s Ministries Director, and Vacation Bible School leader. Alicia then served the Lord as pianist at Calvary Baptist Church, Coshocton, OH, and Central Baptist Church, Sunbury, OH, and had recently become a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New York City. A wise counsellor, spiritual advisor and friend, Alicia strove to share the grace of God with whoever he placed in her path.  Alicia graduated valedictorian from West Bridgewater High School in 1982 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in International Relations from Simmons College in 1986. She was an avid reader and life-long scholar, blessed with a sharp wit and insatiable intellect.  Her study of the Bible was a never-ending pursuit, leaving behind an incredible heritage of writings and notes.  On December 28, 1985, she married Scott Thomas Free and together they enjoyed 30 years of marriage, serving the Lord together. Alicia poured her life into her three children as a homeschooling mother. Their spiritual and intellectual growth was her constant devotion, and she saw them all accepted to college: Austin Scott Free, Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from King’s College, New York City; Julia Marguerite Free, Senior and Presidential Scholar at Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, NY, and currently pursuing a 2-year theatre program at the Ecole Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris; and Meredith Virginia Free, who will begin her studies at Gordon College, Wenham, MA, in the fall, majoring in Visual Arts. In addition to her husband, children, and parents, Alicia is survived by two brothers and their families: Col. Russell K. Armstrong and wife Susan of Nairobi, Kenya, son Tanner of Chicago, IL, daughter Amanda of Wheaton, IL, sons Joel, Bradley, Nolan and daughter Della of Nairobi; Dr. Lyall R. Armstrong and wife April, sons Nathaniel, Wesley, Luke and daughter Lauren all of Beirut, Lebanon; one sister Joni Voelker and husband Tom, and son Brendon all of Rowlett, TX; father-in-law Kenneth Free and wife Virginia of Coshocton, OH; brother-in-law Todd Free and wife Holly, and sons Aaron, Brandon, and Cameron all of New Philadelphia, OH; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.  Alicia was preceded in death by her grandparents Elvis and Eula Belle Armstrong and Richard and Marguerite Eben.  All are welcome to calling hours Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 4-7 P.M. at Temple Baptist Church, 540 Manley St., West Bridgewater, MA, and her funeral service at 5 P.M., Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Smith officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater on Monday. Flowers may be sent to Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, MA, by 12 noon Saturday, January 30 or thereafter directly to Temple Baptist Church. Memoriams in Alicia’s name may be made to Temple Baptist Church.  Memorial Services for Alicia will be held in Ohio and New York at later dates.
